Frequently Asked Questions & SportSpot Rules
What is the SportSpot?
SportSpot is a temporary event to test concepts for the “Evolving Our Riverfront Parks” plan. Taking inspiration from other cities that have reclaimed underpasses for recreational use, a series of sports courts will provide space for pickleball, basketball, biking and more under the Olgiati Bridge. Funding for the project was provided by the Lyndhurst Foundation and Benwood Foundation with the City of Chattanooga, Hamilton County, Parks & Outdoors, Outdoor Chattanooga and The Barn Nursery providing in-kind donations for the project.
Is there a cost to participate?
No, the event is free and open for the public from 9:00am - sunset daily September 6 - 21 and October 4 - October 20. Pickleball paddles and balls will be provided for free. In addition, there will be days where skates will be provided for the public for free. The event schedule will continue to add activities.
Where should I park?
There are two large parking lots adjacent to SportSpot. Additionally, there is on street parking along Riverfront Parkway, Power Alley and Chestnut Street. Prices range, but on street parking is free after 6pm every day and all day on Sundays.
What is a Pump Track?
A pump track is a series of rollers that riders use to propel themselves forward without pedaling or pushing. Riders use their body movements to generate momentum by shifting their hips and pushing or pulling on the handlebars. The pump track at SportSpot is beginner level consisting of 2 series of rollers.
Are you open if it is raining?
The great thing about hosting SportSpot below the Olgiati Bridge is that we are protected from rain. We will be open daily rain or shine and will only close if thunderstorms are in the vicinity.
