Jim Williamson received his degree in Architecture from the University of Tennessee Knoxville, and his background and work experience in architecture, development and construction gives him a unique perspective when working with planners, developers, businesses, government and other strategic partners to advance Downtown Chattanooga.
With a history of designing and managing development projects and directing sustainability initiatives, Jim’s major responsibilities at River City Company include the oversight of the day to day operations of all properties owned and controlled by River City Company. He also oversees and manages the property acquisition process, often leading to the sale or developer partnership for specific projects benefiting downtown. This can typically include property due diligence, contract negotiation, entitlements, request for proposals and oversight project management.
Jim also oversees and manages urban planning studies involving multiple consultants and stakeholders, for the purpose of visioning the future of downtown and involving public and private stakeholder input. As warranted, he manages development projects from inception through completion, including due diligence, design, entitlement, construction, and leasing.
In addition to serving on the City of Chattanooga’s Form Based Code Review Committee since 2018, Jim has volunteered on various non-profit boards and community organizations. While on the board of Family Promise for four years, Jim served as board president in 2019. In addition, Jim has a long affiliation with ACE Mentor of Southeast Tennessee and North Georgia since 2012 while also being board president from 2018 to 2020. A member of Urban Land Institute (ULI), Jim is also a Leadership Chattanooga Class of 2012 graduate and served as the board president of the Ridgeside Dolphins, Chattanooga Area Swim League, from 2017-2019.
Jim holds several certifications including the Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP) recognition from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) and is a Certified Development, Design and Construction Professional as recognized from the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC).
Bringing 28 years of experience in project management to River City Company, Jim utilizes a multitude of acquired skill sets from architecture, development and construction to balance the design, budgeting, management and general understanding of development and intricacies of the public-private partnership process for the betterment of Downtown Chattanooga.
