August is..... Sandwich Month!

Happy August, Chattanooga!

August is usually a crazy busy time for all. School is back in session, traffic gets worse, the change of season (it is ALWAYS the hottest time of year). Just so many things going on! But, to lighten the mood… August is also National Sandwich Month!

One thing about downtown Chattanooga is that we have some AMAZING sandwich shops! For this month’s blog, we wanted to taste test six (6) different sandwiches from six (6) different restaurants and tell YOU what we thought about them. We decided it would be best to try out some sandwiches in City Center, Northshore, Southside, Bluffview, MLK, and Riverfront - so come join us!

Whether you are currently packing your little one a PB& J for school, or are packing yourself a sandwich for your lunch break, we hope that this blog inspires you to eat a sandwich this month (OR go out and have one at a local restaurant downtown).

So without further ado, let’s dive into National Sandwich Month (downtown Chattanooga edition).

city center - Lil Mama’s

For the City Center district, we randomly chose Lil Mama’s Chicago Style Hoagy for our first stop!

Let’s just say Lil Mama’s Chicago Style Hoagy did NOT disappoint! I mean, look at this sandwich?!

We had the absolute best experience at Lil Mama’s. As soon as we walked in the door, the staff was extremely attentive and kind to us and helped us pick out a sandwich that was a personal and fan-fave! This hoagy was loaded with goodness and had the perfect amount of sauce, flavor, and spice. The sandwich pictured is the Spicy Mami.

All we have to say is… go visit this place! Their sandwiches are AMAZING, the staff is friendly, personable, and helpful, and the place itself is so cool. Also! Their beverages are just as good as the hoagies.

Lil Mama’s Chicago Style Hoagy is open in the City Center district for dine-in, take-out, and delivery!

Northshore - River street deli

Next stop! The Northshore district - River Street Deli!

River Street Deli is definitely a HIDDEN gem of downtown Chattanooga! You are probably wondering… what is this sandwich?!

We were curious too - but this sandwich is so unique but SO DELICIOUS. This sandwich is called the Elana Cruz: grilled honey turkey, cream cheese, and strawberry preserves. It was absolutely amazing! So refreshing and so addicting. The sandwich is named after a Cuban woman who created the sandwich recipe! Owner-recommended, too.

If you are out and about in Northshore, please stop by the River Street Deli. The owner and all of the employees are kind and personable, the environment is welcoming, and the food is sooooo tasty.

bluffview - rembrandt’s

Our third stop was the Bluffview district to visit Rembrandt’s Coffee House!

For our third stop, we went to visit Rembrandt’s Coffee House! We wanted to change it up for this stop and go for a classic… a grilled cheese sandwich! And boy was this one good!

This sandwich was the perfect combination of crunchy, buttery, toasted bread with the perfect amount of cheese! It was probably one of the best grilled cheeses that we have had. Besides grilled cheeses, Rembrandt’s also offers coffee/tea, pastries, and other breakfast and lunch options (and don’t worry, they are all as delicious!). Besides their delicious food, they have a beautiful environment to study, work, and exist at, and their staff is very friendly and accommodating!

Southside - niedlov’s

Our next stop - Southside district! Here, we visited Niedlov’s Café & Bakery.

Next up on our list… Niedlov’s! Niedlov’s serves more than just delicious coffee and pastries - they also have a great breakfast & lunch menu!

The sandwich pictured is the Honeyed Chicken Sandwich! It was SO good. The chicken had the perfect honey flavor and overall, it was a great sandwich. Also, the sandwich is created with THEIR house-made bread. Even better, right?!

If you have the chance, go to Niedlov’s! The pastries and bread are delicious, and so is their coffee and breakfast/lunch options. The environment and staff are so welcoming and sweet. It is the perfect place to meet a friend or get some work done (& get this sandwich)!

Niedlov’s is open in the Southside district for dine-in, take-out, and (curbside) delivery!

mlk - Chatt smokehouse

Our second to last stop was to the MLK district to Chatt Smokehouse!

We just HAD to stop by Chatt Smokehouse for the MLK district. We have heard how good this place is, and it is TRUE! We had a pulled pork sandwich here and oh my gosh… it was delicious! It was the perfect BBQ sandwich - it was so fresh and had so much flavor!

Chatt Smokehouse offers other types of BBQ sandwiches, delicious sides, and desserts. The staff was so friendly, kind, and the food came out so fast! If you are in the area, you better stop here for a delicious meal.

Riverfront - Coldstone Creamery

For our last stop, we headed over to the Riverfront district to enjoy a “sandwich” from Coldstone!

For our last sandwich, we wanted to change it up… we went for a dessert sandwich at Coldstone Creamery!

The “sandwich” you are looking at is the Cake Batter Sprinkle ice cream/cookie sandwich. It was the perfect treat after a bunch of savory sandwiches. The cookie sandwich was perfect, the ice cream was perfect, and so were the sprinkles! They also have a variety of other dessert sandwich flavors. Their staff was very kind and helpful, and we were in and out within minutes. It is located right on the riverfront too, which is the perfect view while eating this sweet treat.

If you are by the riverfront, make sure you go visit Coldstone Creamery for any of their treats!
